In this event, the best athletes from all provinces gather and compete in various sports, making PON a highly anticipated moment, similar to the Olympics, but on a national scale. PON was first held in 1948 in Solo, amidst the post-independence situation, when the spirit of nationalism was very high. Since then, PON has become more than just a competition event, but also a symbol of national unity and pride. Each province sends their best athletes, and this moment becomes an opportunity to showcase their talents and achievements on the national stage.

Legal Basis for the Implementation of PON (National Sports Week) Aceh-North Sumatra 2024

The implementation of the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in 2024 in Aceh and North Sumatra is supported by a clear and strong legal basis to ensure its implementation runs well, orderly, and according to the rules. One of the important regulations that supports the success of this event is Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 24 of 2024. This Keppres stipulates the formation of a Task Force (Satgas) which is tasked with overseeing and guarding the entire implementation process, starting from preparation, infrastructure development, to the implementation of matches. This Task Force plays an important role in ensuring that all PON activities run smoothly and according to plan, both in terms of administration and budget.

In addition, another main legal basis is Law Number 3 of 2005 concerning the National Sports System, which serves as a guide for every implementation of sports activities in Indonesia. This Law affirms the responsibility of the central and regional governments in supporting national events such as PON. In this law, the government has an obligation to provide adequate and proper sports facilities and infrastructure, in order to support the improvement of athletes' achievements. This law is also an important foundation for managing the sports system in an integrated and sustainable manner.

Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2007 then provides technical details on how PON and other sports activities should be organized, both at the regional and national levels. This PP covers matters such as the formation of organizing committees, fund management, and the provision of facilities and infrastructure needed to support the running of the matches. This regulation also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between local governments and sports organizations, so that all preparations can be carried out professionally and well-coordinated.

Beyond the technical aspects, Government Regulation Number 17 of 2007 also emphasizes the need to pay attention to the safety and health of all parties involved, including athletes, officials, and spectators. Safety is a top priority, so organizers are required to ensure that the facilities used meet strict safety standards. With this legal basis, it is hoped that PON XXI in Aceh and North Sumatra can take place not only successfully, but also safely and in accordance with applicable regulations.
