Legal Literacy - The public already suspected that the former Minister of Religious Affairs of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet under President Jokowi's regime, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas or more popularly Gus Yaqut, was named a corruption suspect by the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission). The corruption of the Hajj quota - a "gift" from the Saudi Arabian Government led the former minister behind bars. This case adds to the long list of former Indonesian Ministers of Religious Affairs who have been dragged into the vortex of corruption.
Structured, Systematic, Massive (TSM) Corruption
Corruption in the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs is not the first time it has happened. Said Agil Husin Al Munawar was sentenced to five years in prison in 2006, followed by his successor, Suryadharma Ali, to six years in prison in 2014. The recurring pattern of corruption in the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs shows a practice of corruption that is no longer sporadic or an individual act, but has taken deep root in the system and involves a network of actors and a broad level of power, which can be said to be TSM Corruption, Structured (planned), Systematic (carried out institutionally) and Massive (evenly distributed in various lines).
Thus, this TSM corruption practice is very difficult to eradicate, if not impossible, because it seems as if the act is a common act and even becomes a "culture" whether carried out consciously or unconsciously. Apart from damaging morals, it will certainly also damage the order of state life, integrity, groups or individuals and harm state finances or the economy.
