JAKARTA, LEGAL LITERACY – The General Elections Commission (KPU) has requested the Constitutional Court to reject all petitions submitted by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) for the filling of prospective members of the Jambi Province DPRD for the Jambi 2 Electoral District (Dapil), members of the Jambi Province DPRD for the Jambi 3 Dapil, members of the Muaro Jambi Regency DPRD for the Muaro Jambi 3 Dapil, members of the Merangin Regency DPRD for the Merangin 2 Dapil, members of the Kerinci Regency DPRD for the Kerinci 4 Dapil, and members of the Kerinci Regency DPRD for the Kerinci 5 Dapil. This was conveyed by the KPU, as the Respondent, in a hearing chaired by Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat, accompanied by Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman and Constitutional Justice Enny Nurbaningsih, regarding the Dispute over the Results of the General Election in case number 73-01-03-05/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024 submitted by PDI-P.
“Based on the description above, the Respondent requests the Constitutional Court to issue a decision as follows: In the Exception, to grant the Respondent's exception in its entirety and declare the Petitioner's petition inadmissible. In the Subject Matter, to reject the Petitioner's petition in its entirety,” said Yeffry Amazia Galla, Legal Counsel for the Respondent at the hearing held in Panel 3 Hearing Room on Monday (13/05/2024).
KPU asserted that the determination of the number of votes for the Petitioner in several disputed electoral districts is correct. The KPU also stated that the Petitioner's claim regarding the discrepancy in the number of votes in several electoral districts is unfounded. According to the KPU, for the Jambi II Electoral District, the KPU noted that the Prosperous Justice Party obtained 19,245 votes, while the Petitioner obtained 57,580 votes. In the Jambi III Electoral District, the United Development Party obtained 55,269 votes, while the Petitioner obtained 55,026 votes.
Furthermore, in the filling of prospective members of the Regional People's Representative Council of Merangin Regency for the Merangin 2 Dapil, which includes Tabir Sub-district, Tabir Ulu Sub-district, Tabir Selatan Sub-district, Tabir Ilir Sub-district, Tabir Timur Sub-district, Margo Tabir Sub-district, Tabir Lintas Sub-district, and Tabir Barat Sub-district, the National Mandate Party obtained 3,216 votes, while the Petitioner obtained 55,260 votes.
For Muaro Jambi Regency, Dapil 3 Sungai Gelam Sub-district, the Petitioner has 3,757 votes and the National Awakening Party has 4,348 votes. Meanwhile, in Kerinci Regency, the Kerinci 4 Electoral District which includes Danau Kerinci Sub-district, Batang Merangin Sub-district, Tanah Cogok Sub-district, and Sitinjau Laut Sub-district, the Petitioner obtained 2,366 votes, compared to 2,807 votes obtained by the Great Indonesia Movement Party.
